Ghanaians urged to uphold District Assembly concept

Accra. August 26. Mrs.Rhoda Akueteh, Ayawaso Central Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has advised citizens to under study and uphold the District Assembly concept for development in their localities.

She made this remark during a social auditing engagement held at the Nkansa Djan electoral area within the Ayawaso Central Municipality.

According to Mrs. Akueteh the citizens could also appreciate how government operational machinary funtions when they were able to understand the concept.

She added that citizens has it as their responsibility to demand for accountability from duty bearers within their localities.

The Municipal NCCE director, further added that, citizens must have a say in any local government project in their communities saying that it would promote community development for the benefit of everyone.

Mrs. Akueteh, informed that, the NCCE would as part of the Accountability, Rule of law and Anti corruption programme (ARAP) continue to sensitize the citizens on their rights and also to whip up their interest in taking part of governance and also decision making process in their local communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ayawaso Central, Mr. Faisal Suraj,expressed gratitude to the NCCE for organizing the social auditing engagement adding that such events would help shape the minds of the citizens and enhance accountability and transparency within the local government settings.

Gitficonline.com observed that Five member committee was formed to monitor the construction of a community library within the Nkansa Djan electoral area.

Participants were given the opportunity to contribute and make suggestions where necessary.
