GITFIC to Moderate High-Level Panel on AfCFTA at UN Economic Meeting in Morocco

The Ghana International Trade and Finance Conference (GITFIC) has received a distinguished invitation from the United Nations Economic Community for Africa – West and North Africa to participate in and moderate a panel at the 3rd Joint Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts. The event, slated to take place in Rabat, Morocco, will explore innovative strategies to enhance intra-regional trade under the theme: Accelerating AfCFTA Implementation in North and West Africa Through Digital Transformation and Economic Diversification.

This prestigious invitation follows GITFIC’s notable contributions to the discourse surrounding the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Earlier this year, GITFIC hosted the 8th edition of its Global Trade Initiative in Accra, an event graced by the United Nations Secretary-General and key stakeholders from across Africa.

In a joint letter issued on September 26, 2024, both directors of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) extended the invitation to GITFIC’s Chief Executive, recognizing the organization’s expertise in AfCFTA and its transformative role in promoting actionable policies.

GITFIC remains a thought leader in advancing AfCFTA-related discussions, particularly through initiatives such as its AfCFTA Tertiary Students Club, launched in 2019, and its contributions to sensitization efforts and accessibility frameworks. The upcoming panel in Morocco will allow GITFIC to delve into digital tools as a catalyst for economic integration and growth in the region.

The Chief Executive of GITFIC will also engage in high-level meetings with senior officials from various institutions, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to advancing the AfCFTA agenda. Additionally, GITFIC is preparing to roll out its new AfCFTA curriculum for Africa’s tertiary institutions in February 2025, aimed at equipping students and future policymakers with practical knowledge of the trade agreement.
