Going Into Election with Defective Voters’ Register Would Be a Bad Omen – Bossman Asare

The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Bossman Asare, has emphasized the importance of using an accurate voters’ register for the upcoming elections, warning that it would be a bad omen to proceed with any inaccuracies.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on September 21, Dr. Asare noted that the process of updating and verifying the voter register is actively underway. “We want all parties to be on board. It will be a bad omen for the Commission if we go into the election knowing there are problems in the register that we can address,” he said.

He further stated that all the errors identified by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been rectified, but the party’s demands for a re-exhibition of the register and a forensic audit have not been fulfilled.

“All the issues the NDC claimed they identified have been addressed, including the 243,000 transfer anomalies they raised,” Dr. Asare said. However, he explained that the call for a forensic audit is premature as the process of finalizing the voters’ register is still ongoing.

Dr. Asare reassured the public that the EC is committed to taking all necessary steps to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
