The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has denied a claim that it owes the Bank of Ghana (BoG) GH¢1 billion in an unpaid overdraft, describing the allegation as “totally false” and malicious.
The denial follows a claim attributed to the Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, that GoldBod had an outstanding GH¢1 billion overdraft with the Central Bank.
However, GoldBod, in a statement on Monday, August 24, 2026, said it had never borrowed from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution.
“For the records, the GoldBod has never at any time since its establishment taken a loan, overdraft or any debt instrument from the Bank of Ghana or any financial institution whatsoever,” the statement said.
The board described the claim as part of what it called a “deliberate and malicious smear campaign” against the institution.
“The claim attributed to Dr. Gideon Boako is contrived and should be treated with utmost contempt,” it said.
The GoldBod called on the Tano North MP to withdraw the allegation and apologise for what it described as the publication of false information.
“We entreat the MP to unequivocally retract and apologise for putting out this falsehood,” the statement said.
