Government seeks increased Chinese investment for automotive industry growth

Government has reiterated its commitment to creating an enabling environment for automotive companies such as Zonda Tec Ghana Limited to thrive in the domestic market.

As part of efforts to deepen economic ties and attract foreign direct investment, the government is also looking to court additional Chinese investment into the country’s automotive sector.

Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, in an interview with the media after paying a working visit to the facilities of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited in Tema stressed the government’s resolve to support the growth of the automotive industry as a key driver of job creation and industrial development.

“The auto policy does not cover the big trucks that they [Zonda] do so we are reviewing the auto policy to include what they do. These are the things that will encourage them to produce more. I will be travelling to China under the instructions of His Excellency with them and other Chinese companies. We want to go to China and bring more people to invest in the auto sector and other sub sectors of the economy. I am happy at what I am seeing and I encourage Ghanaians to patronize these products,” she said.

Meanwhile Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited Yang Yang on her part indicated plans by the company to deepen its operations in Ghana

“We are enjoying auto policy by assembling the pickups, SUVs. We have three factories and we also have 8 branches. We have a staff of over 500. Ghana is a very positive environment. I always Ghana is like a white paper depending on how you are writing on it. If you have positive energy, you will write positive energy on it,” she stated.
