Government unveils activities for 68th Independence Day celebration.

The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has unveiled a comprehensive lineup of activities to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary.

The celebrations, scheduled to take place between February 28 and March 6, 2025, will include historical commemorations, student competitions, and a grand ceremonial parade. According to a statement from the NCPC, the festivities will commence with the commemoration of the 28th February Crossroads Shooting Incident on Friday, February 28, 2025. This historic event pays tribute to the three ex-servicemen who were fatally shot during a protest in 1948.

The programme will continue with the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on Sunday, March 2, 2025, followed by the finals of a national debate competition on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.  A key highlight of the celebrations is the President’s School Children Awards Programme, scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The event will honour outstanding students across the country for their academic achievements and contributions to national development.

The grand climax of the celebrations will be the ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on Thursday, March 6, 2025, marking Ghana’s official Independence Day.
