Harris Lauds Biden’s ‘Unmatched’ Legacy in First Remarks Since His Exit from 2024 Race

In her first public remarks since President Joe Biden endorsed her to lead the 2024 White House campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris lauded Biden’s “unmatched” legacy and expressed her deep gratitude for his service to the nation.

“Joe Biden’s legacy of accomplishment over the past three years is unmatched in modern history,” Harris told a crowd gathered on the White House South Lawn to celebrate student athletes.

“In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms in office,” she added.

Biden’s exit on Sunday, driven by Democratic concerns over his fitness for office, marked a seismic shift in the presidential contest, disrupting both major political parties’ plans for the 2024 race.

Aiming to move past weeks of intraparty drama over Biden’s candidacy, prominent Democratic elected officials, party leaders, and political organizations quickly rallied behind Harris following Biden’s announcement that he would not seek reelection.

Biden’s departure releases his delegates to vote for any candidate. Harris, whom Biden endorsed after ending his candidacy, is currently the only declared candidate and is swiftly working to secure endorsements from a majority of delegates.
