The Ministry of Interior has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Binduri and its environs following recent violent attacks that claimed several lives.
The ministry, in a statement, said it imposed the restrictions by an executive instrument on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils.
The curfew takes effect today and will be in place from 6pm to 6am each day.
“The Minister for the Interior on the advice of the Upper East and North East Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument imposed Curfew on Binduri Township and its environs in the Upper East Region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am effective Monday, March 24, 2025,” excerpts of the release read.
The imposition of the curfew comes on the heels of the killing of 5 people in violent attacks in the space of a week in the area.
The attacks are believed to be linked to the protracted Bawku conflict.
On Monday, March 17, 2025, 2 people were shot dead at Atuba, a suburb of Binduri when gunmen opened fire at traders at marketplace.
Another attack on drinking spot at Binduri Down yesterday left 6 people injured.
3 of the victims have since been confirmed dead.
The Bawku conflict, since its renewal around 2021, has spilled over to surrounding areas and Walewale in the North East Region.
