The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) has instructed all its members to commence a strike beginning Monday, July 15.
Organised Labour has announced an indefinite strike following the National Pensions Regulatory Authority’s (NPRA) approval for the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) to proceed with its contentious plan to sell a 60% stake in four hotels to Bryan Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel.
Dr. Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), expressed confusion over the NPRA’s decision to allow SSNIT to move forward with the deal without further engagement, especially after initially ordering a halt to the process.
Minister for Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions, Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, informed Parliament that the NPRA has given SSNIT the green light to proceed with the sale of the four hotels. During a meeting on July 12 at the Trades Union Congress, the leadership of Organised Labour reiterated that the proposed sale of SSNIT’s shares is not in the best interest of Ghanaian workers.
In a press release signed by National President Samuel Afotey Otu, the association demanded the immediate termination of the process. As an accredited member of Organised Labour, JUSAG is required to adhere to this resolution.
