Fred Tetteh, the Deputy Head of Research at the Electoral Commission (EC), has reassured eligible voters who have misplaced their voter cards that they can still participate in the election.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show with Bernard Avle on December 7, Tetteh clarified that voters in this situation can visit their registered polling station, explain their circumstances to the EC’s verification officer, and cast their ballot once their identity is confirmed.
“The absence of a voter card should not deter anyone from voting,” he said. “All that is required is your fingerprints and face for verification. Just walk into your polling station and present yourself for verification, and you’ll be able to vote.”
He emphasized that the EC’s system maintains a comprehensive database of all registered voters, ensuring that those without their voter cards can be identified and accommodated during the process.
This announcement aims to eliminate concerns of disenfranchisement and encourage eligible voters to confidently participate in the election, regardless of whether they have their voter cards on hand.
