John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded to comments made by his main opponent, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Mahama asserted that Ghana requires an experienced and “licensed driver” to lead the nation forward.
Dr. Bawumia, during a recent media engagement, pointed out that he has never served as President, unlike Mahama, and urged voters to choose him instead. In response, Mahama, during a community engagement as part of his Greater Accra regional campaign, criticized Bawumia and the NPP for what he described as a “failed attempt” to divert attention from the NDC’s manifesto launch by holding a media event the following day.
Mahama accused Bawumia of being dishonest in his interactions with the media, and emphasized the importance of experience in leadership.
“Our youth don’t have the luxury of time. They are both the future and the present. They cannot afford to endure trial and error, where one leader tries and fails, only for the next to come along and make things worse,” Mahama stated. “We need someone who has done it before, someone with experience. We need a licensed driver to take control and steer the vehicle towards the destiny God has set for us,” he added.
