Majority Calls on Speaker to Hold September Parliamentary Sitting in Dome

The Majority in Parliament has urged Speaker Alban Bagbin to consider using a specially constructed dome at the car park for parliamentary sessions scheduled for September 3, 2024. This recommendation follows the Speaker’s decision to recall Members of Parliament from recess for an emergency sitting, prompted by a petition from Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The recall was initiated by the Majority caucus, who expressed dissatisfaction with the Speaker’s indefinite adjournment of sittings on July 30, 2024. However, ongoing renovations in Parliament have raised concerns about the Chamber’s availability for the upcoming proceedings, leading the Speaker to indicate that an alternative venue will be announced soon.

During a media interaction, Alex Tetteh Djournobuah, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, suggested that the dome, previously used during the COVID-19 pandemic, could be utilized again if the Chamber remains inaccessible. He emphasized that the dome at the car park is a viable option for conducting parliamentary business.
