The Minority in Parliament is calling on President John Mahama to take decisive action against the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Mr. Sammy Gyamfi following a viral video showing him giving out dollar bills to evangelist, Patricia Koranteng, widely known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage has sparked widespread public backlash, prompting Mr. Gyamfi to issue an apology. However, members of the Minority believe the apology is insufficient and are urging the President to act swiftly.
Addressing the media in Parliament on May 12, 2025, a member of the Finance Committee, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, condemned Mr. Gyamfi’s conduct, describing it as an affront to Ghanaian taxpayers and a display of “financial recklessness.”
He expressed deep concern about the implications of the incident, especially at a time when many Ghanaians are struggling with economic hardship.
“This display of financial recklessness is not only a betrayal of public trust but also a slap in the face of the millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of cedi inflation and the unbearable cost of living,” he added.
Dr. Mahama further criticised the involvement of a public official who, in his view, has built a public image rooted in economic discipline and anti-corruption advocacy.
“It is even more shameful that this act was committed by someone who has, in the past, championed populist rhetoric about economic discipline, cedi loyalty, and anti-corruption,” he noted.
The Minority is urging the Presidency to uphold principles of accountability and take swift action to restore public confidence in governance.
