Mr. John Alan Kyeremanten, a New Patriotic Party flag bearer, announced his withdrawal from the flag bearer race in a press conference on Monday, September 25, 2023, at Accra.
Following the Special Delegates elections on August 26, 2023, the former Trade Minister was one of the five candidates selected to vie for the Party’s flag-bearer post on November 4.

He cited that his resignation from the position was influenced by a number of events leading to, during, and after the Special Delegates elections, which were “strategically and tactically” planned to to favour a particular Aspirant.
Mr. Kyeremanten also mentioned that there was a varying level of intimidation from the party towards some delegates at the voting centers, which was unleashed directly and indirectly. He described this intimidation as “appalling, unconscionable, and despicable.”
“Regrettably, I am not convinced that the circumstances I have referred to earlier will not persist or even escalate in the next round of elections, for which balloting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 6, 2023.” He stated.
“In light of the foregoing, I wish to confirm that I am honorably withdrawing from the process that will lead to the presidential primaries to be held on November 4, 2023.”

Furthermore, Mr. Kyeremanten announced his intention to contest the 2024 presidential election as an independent candidate.
“To actualize this goal, I will establish and lead a new movement for change in Ghana.” He informed during the press conference.
He went on to express gratitude to his family, his campaign team and all well-wishers around the globe and wished other Aspirants well as they continued the journey.
