NACOC intercepts 89kg of suspected cocaine bound for Netherlands, 4 arrested.

Four individuals have been arrested following the interception of a cargo shipment containing suspected cocaine by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, 23rd April.

The operation was conducted at Swiss Port, where NACOC officials discovered 73 slabs of a concealed substance believed to be cocaine.

The suspected narcotics, weighing approximately 89.74 kilogrammes, were reportedly being prepared for export to the Netherlands.

According to authorities, the seizure was the result of an intelligence-led operation designed to counter the use of Ghana’s ports for international drug trafficking.

“The arrests of such persons confirm that we are working, and that they don’t have their easy way they had in the past. Now we have quality and relentless leaders who are working hard to ensure we get this thing off our borders,” said Alexander Twum Barimah, NACOC’s Deputy Director General, during an interview on Citi FM.

“I can only say that now the country or the institution has quality leaders, who are actively working to ensure that the right things are done,” he added.

The identities of the four suspects have not yet been made public. They remain in the custody of the Commission as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the attempted export.
