Dr. Joe Anokye, the Director General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), has voiced his anticipation for Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to provide compensation to subscribers affected by recent internet disruptions. He underscored that the decision rests with the independent MNOs, who must reach a resolution before any action can be taken by the Authority.

Since Thursday, March 14, 2024, interruptions in Mobile Network Operations have arisen due to damages to undersea fiber optic cables, pivotal for internet connectivity in Ghana. Consequently, numerous Ghanaians have been left without access to the internet.

In an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Mr. Anokye discussed inquiries regarding subscriber compensation. He mentioned, “That discussion is currently ongoing.

In fact, the message that I received from Telecel this morning said they are looking into that. So, I expect that the MNOs will have to, but each MNO is independent. They will have to make that decision. And then NCA will look at their decision and then, hopefully. It will depend on the decision that can come from them.”
