NCCE Sensitize PPYA on electoral violence

Accra, Dec 04 – The National Commission for Civic Education in the Ayawaso Central has Sensitize Political Party’s Youth Activists (PPYA) on electoral violence.

The sensitization seminar was under the theme ‘Empower the youth to stand up for Ghana and for peaceful election 2020’

Delivering her keynote address, Mrs.Rhoda Akuerteh Ayawaso Central NCCE director noted that, Ayawaso Central has been considered among the three possible Flashpoints  districts in the Greater Accra Region as far as the December 7th elections are concerned.

She informed that, the youth are mostly used to perpetuate troubles on elections days hence the need to draw the attention of the youth about the dangers involved in engaging in such acts.

Mrs. Akuerteh further explained that, the program also seek to increase youthful participation   in the democratic process of the country and also raising the awareness of the youth in ensuring peaceful election before, during and after the polls.

Assistant Commissioner of Police(ACP) Abraham Acquaye Nima Divisional Police commander also informed that, the police was well prepared to ensure a peaceful election.

He noted that, there would be severe punishment for people who would  indulge in electoral violence adding that, offenders could be imprisoned when caught.

According to the Divisional  police commander, it was also a Civic duty for citizens to respect the tenent of the rule of law and also  the public order act of the Republic of Ghana.

‘Let us be law abiding going into the elections’ he hinted.

ACP Acquaye also called on the citizens to ensure they exercise their Civic right by going out to vote in the December 7th elections.

Mrs. Hulliet Lucille Annan  Greater Accra Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education noted that, the  vigilante act has banned any form of vigilante group in the country with a call on the youth to report any group as such to the law enforcing agencies.

She added that, activities of such vigilante groups were hitherto illegal and it punishment could be grave and severe.

Youth activists of the various political parties were given the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions where necessary.
