The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its intention to ensure that its upcoming meeting with the Electoral Commission (EC) concerning the 2024 provisional voters register is broadcast live for public transparency.
In a letter dated August 27, the NDC initially requested a meeting with the EC to address what it claimed were discrepancies in the voter register. Following this, on September 5, the party submitted a follow-up request for the September 6 meeting to be aired live. However, the EC declined this request.
Dr. Omane Boamah, the NDC’s Director of Elections, took to Facebook to announce that, despite the EC’s refusal, party representatives would take measures to stream the meeting live to ensure openness.
He also issued a warning to the EC, cautioning against any actions that could be perceived as manipulating the election process in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasizing that such behavior would not be tolerated by the NDC.
In his post, Dr. Boamah also questioned the silence of the NPP despite the alleged irregularities in the provisional voter register, raising concerns about potential electoral manipulation.
In the post, Dr. Boamah wrote:
“Why Should the Electoral Commission of Ghana be Afraid of Live Coverage of Today’s Meeting with the NDC @ 2pm?”
He expressed disagreement with the EC’s decision not to broadcast the meeting live, stating that transparency is crucial for ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections. He also emphasized that public scrutiny and a forensic audit of the voters register are necessary.
Dr. Boamah further remarked on the silence of the NPP and other personalities and institutions, suggesting that this silence indicates potential collusion in the manipulation of the electoral process.
The NDC, he noted, would not stand by and allow any form of election rigging or manipulation for the 2024 election, stressing that the party would take every step necessary to ensure transparency and fairness.
