NIA to begin registration of children aged 6–14 at premium centres

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the commencement of registration for Ghanaian children aged six to 14 years at all its Premium Centres nationwide.

In a statement dated Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the Authority said the initiative aligns with its legal mandate to register all Ghanaians, both home and abroad, to ensure every citizen has a secure and verifiable national identity.

The NIA explained that the move is also part of efforts to build a comprehensive and inclusive National Identity Register (NIR) that captures every Ghanaian from childhood.

The fee for first-time registration at Premium Centres is GHC310, consistent with approved charges for premium services. Parents or legal guardians are required to present one of the following documents for their wards:

  1. A valid Ghanaian passport of the child; or
  2. The original copy of the child’s birth certificate; or
  3. A Ghana Card holder parent or legal guardian who can vouch for the child.

The authority also noted that effective Monday, September 15, 2025, the NIA will extend its online registration and booking system to all 11 remaining Premium Centres nationwide. This will enable applicants to conveniently schedule appointments to ensure a smooth and timely process.

The NIA assured the public that Ghana Cards for children already registered will be issued in due course. It further disclosed plans to extend registration services to all NIA District Offices across the country in the coming weeks to expand access.
