NPP ELECTS BAMUMIA AS NEW FLAG BEARER FOR THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTION.

Incumbent Vice President Mahamudu

was declared the winner of the New Patriotic Party’s [NPP] presidential primary election, which was held on Saturday, November 4, 2024, at Accra Sport Stadium.

The certified result announcement of Dr. Bawumia’s victory was done by the director of the electoral commission,Dr. Sebour Quiacoe. According to the result, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with 118,210 votes, representing 61.47% of the total votes cast.

It had been predicted that Dr. Bawumia was going to win by a larger margin, but as promised, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong gave him a “showdown with 71,996 votes, representing 35.52% of the total valid

vote. The third contender, Dr. Owusu Afryie Akoto, garnered 1,459 votes [of 0.76%], while the fourth contender, Dr. Addai Nimo, got 718 votes [of 0.41%], respectively.

In all, 192,446 delegates voted in Saturday’s presidential primary, with the total valid votes being 193,346. 900 votes were rejected, and turnout stood at 94.63%.

Dr. Bawumia’s journey to become the governing party’s flag bearer was not without intense competition and political drama, including strong challenges from Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and fallout from the superdelegates conference.
