NPP to Launch Policy Unit as Part of Internal Reforms – Bawumia

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has embarked on a major internal restructuring, including the creation of a strengthened policy unit aimed at revitalising the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The initiative was announced by the party’s newly elected presidential candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, during the NPP’s post-election thanksgiving service on February 15, 2026, at the UPSA Auditorium.

Dr Bawumia described the occasion not as a personal victory but as the symbolic conclusion of one phase of party reform and the start of a new chapter focused on rebuilding and organisational renewal.

He noted that the internal elections, although peaceful, had generated tensions that now require reconciliation, unity, and renewed commitment to shared values.

The proposed policy unit will professionalise the party’s policy development process, coordinating and promoting governance proposals to the public. This move complements a broader reorganisation of NPP structures at national, regional, constituency, and grassroots levels to strengthen campaign machinery and enhance public trust.

Dr Bawumia highlighted the importance of discipline, humility, and hard work, urging members to earn electoral support “constituency by constituency and household by household.” He also announced a nationwide “thank you tour” to engage members, recognise their contributions during the internal election, and rebuild cohesion across the party.

The restructuring drive comes amid efforts to reposition the NPP as a credible alternative to the ruling National Democratic Congress, signalling a generational and strategic shift in leadership with a renewed focus on technocratic governance and long-term party rebuilding.

By establishing the policy unit and reorganising party structures, Dr Bawumia aims to create a foundation for consistent, policy-driven engagement, restoring trust within the party and enhancing its competitiveness ahead of 2028.
