Nteso’s cassava industry set to grow with new processing factory

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, officially inaugurated a cassava processing factory in Nteso, Fanteakwa North District, on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Built at a cost of GH¢446,974.90, the facility is designed to convert cassava into gari, generate jobs, and boost the local economy.

The project is a joint initiative between the Fanteakwa North District Assembly and the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF).

Mrs. Awatey described the commissioning as a major step in the district’s and region’s economic transformation, highlighting the factory’s role in addressing issues faced by cassava farmers, such as post-harvest losses and fluctuating prices.

She expressed confidence that the facility would create employment opportunities for young people in Nteso and neighboring communities while promoting income generation, industrial growth, and economic empowerment.

The Minister stressed the value of adding processing capacity, noting that turning raw cassava into finished products could help farmers move from subsistence farming to profitable agribusiness.

She encouraged the community to support the factory, increase cassava production to meet demand, and praised the District Assembly and UNCDF for their collaboration in bringing the project to life.
