Paul Bogle Foundation to mark candlelight commemorative day

Tema, August 06. The Paul Bogle Foundation in collaboration with the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNA) and the Black Restoration Foundation was set to mark this year’s candlelight commemorative day on 24 October 2020.

The commemorative day which was dubbed ‘Fire Baptism by candlelight’ was aimed to remember the million of African who died as a results of slavery and aparthied over some 150 years ago.

In a press release signed by Mr. Samuel Bamidele Ojo National Youth Secretary GUNA and copied to Gitficonline.com , stated that, every person of good will was expected to light a candle on the commemorative day. It further explained that the lighted candle should be videoed or photographed and posted on social media for people to see.

According to the statement fire means cleansing, purity, and must be used to create a unification of the black race. Let use the power of fire to create a spiritual cleansing the statement added.

Paul Bogle was a celebrated Jamaican Baptist Deacon and human right activist who lead the 1865 Morant Bay protest to fight for justice and fair treatment for people living in Jamaica.

Paul Bogle was arrested by government troops, tried and convicted by the British authorities under martial law and was hanged to death on 24 October 1865 at the Morant Bay Court house.
