Police meet NPP elections committee, flag bearer hopefuls

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee and flag bearer hopefuls met with the Ghana Police Service in Accra to discuss security arrangements for the November 4 presidential primary to elect a flag bearer for the 2024 general election.

The police are responsible for providing security for the election, which will take place in all 276 constituencies nationwide and at the party headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra. The aspirants for the flag-bearer election include Ken Ohene Agyapong, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, and former MP for Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Francis Addai-Nimoh.

The meeting in camera discussed the safety of flag-bearer hopefuls, supporters, and the public, as well as the security of the entire electoral process. The police pledged their commitment to providing adequate security, resources, and intelligence to ensure law and order during the election period.

Approximately 200,000 delegates are expected to cast their votes in the election, which will commence at 7 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. on November 4, 2024. The delegates include members of the national council, executive committees, electoral area coordinators, and other party organs.
