Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the critical role of Ghana–China collaboration in boosting the country’s energy security, emphasizing the contribution of the Sunon Asogli Thermal Power Station in stabilizing electricity supply during challenging periods.

Speaking at the 2026 Sunon Asogli Chinese New Year event on Monday, February 16, 2026, which celebrated the Spring Festival and the Year of the Horse, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed Ghana’s gratitude for the power station’s support of the national grid, particularly during times of power shortages. She stressed that reliable energy is vital for Ghana’s industrialisation, economic resilience, productivity, and investment.

While recognizing the infrastructure gains from this partnership, she emphasised that true development extends beyond physical projects.
“Development is not built by infrastructure alone, but also by people, cultures, and mutual respect,” she said, underscoring that sustainable partnerships require clear objectives, accountability, and alignment with Ghana’s national development goals.
As Ghana continues to expand its industrial base and secure its energy future, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated the country’s commitment to transparent, equitable, and mutually beneficial partnerships.

She described the Spring Festival celebration as an opportunity for reflection and renewal, expressing optimism about Ghana’s progress in building resilient institutions, sustainable infrastructure, and shared prosperity.
