Re-register your SIMs with Ghana Card or risk losing your phone numbers – Dr. Bawumia

VP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says plans are in progress to guarantee that all Ghanaians with SIM cards re-register them utilizing the National Identification card by the center of this current year.

As per him, the move is important for plans to free the country’s internet of misrepresentation, screen, and track down people who utilize their telephones for crimes.

The Ghana Card at present has more than 15 million conveyors who are both occupant and non-inhabitant, just as legitimately and forever occupant outside nationals.

Talking at the fifth Ghana CEO Summit in Accra, the Vice President noticed that any person who neglects to participate in the activity hazards losing their SIM card.

“I expect that the Minister for Communications and Digitalization [Ursula Owusu Ekuful] will before long report the date for the enlistment of the SIM card. Perhaps before the finish of June or the start of July this year, everyone should enlist their SIM with a National ID number.”

“We as a whole need to do that else we’ll lose that SIM card. That will truly give us a genuine character for all MoMo exchanges. For instance, it removes misrepresentation that is occurring like SIM box and through MoMo”, he added.

The last time a comparable exercise was coordinated was in June 2020.
