Richard Gyamfi claims COCOBOD intends to lower the cocoa price.

Richard Gyamfi, a member of the New Patriotic Party’s National Communications Team, has accused the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) of planning to lower the price paid to cocoa farmers, a move he warned must be firmly opposed.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, he has received reports suggesting that discussions are ongoing to reduce the producer price per bag, despite recent increases for the 2025/2026 cocoa season. He said, “I am hearing from the grapevine that they even want to reduce the price per bag they are paying to cocoa farmers,” and vowed to campaign against any such reduction in farmer income.

He promised to rally resistance against what he described as an unjust policy, insisting that cocoa farmers should not bear the burden of issues affecting the sector. “We will resist any notion that they are harbouring plans to reduce the price of cocoa bags in this country,” he stated.

The claims come as the producer price has been set at GH¢3,625 per 64-kilogramme bag for 2025/2026, up from GH¢3,228.75 the previous season.

Meanwhile, COCOBOD has announced it is exploring a new funding approach for cocoa procurement, aimed at encouraging value addition and reducing dependence on exporting raw cocoa beans.
