SML offices raided by OSP with search warrants

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has raided SML’s offices as part of ongoing investigations into a $500M contract awarded under Ken Ofori-Atta.

Personnel from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), supported by operatives from the National Security Secretariat, have conducted a coordinated raid on the offices of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

The action, confirmed to 3Business, forms part of an ongoing probe into a controversial contract worth over $500 million.

The raid, carried out under a court-issued search warrant, took place simultaneously at SML’s offices in Osu and Tema.

According to sources familiar with the operation, the OSP is in the advanced stages of its investigation and is particularly focused on retrieving electronic evidence from the company’s servers.

The SML deal is one of the contracts at the center of the OSP’s efforts to track financial irregularities linked to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The Special Prosecutor recently declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice, citing his failure to respond to summons in relation to this and other transactions.

Formed shortly after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assumed power in 2017, SML originally registered as Strategic Mobilization Enhancement Limited (SMEL) has been flagged for receiving contracts from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) through questionable single-source procurement methods.

The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) reportedly denied approval for such arrangements on three occasions, citing SML’s lack of experience.
