Star Oil has cut its ex-pump fuel prices to the National Petroleum Authority’s (NPA) price floor for the first pricing window of August, offering some relief to consumers after pump prices surged earlier.
The latest adjustment is the third revision of ex-pump prices by Star Oil since the start of the August first pricing window.
Petrol at Star Oil outlets is now selling at GH¢14.53 per litre, down from GH¢15.57 earlier on Monday.
Diesel has also been reduced from GH¢18.97 to GH¢16.97 per litre, matching the NPA price floor for the current pricing window.
Star Oil said the reduction in diesel prices follows the government’s decision to temporarily reduce the regulatory margin on diesel by GH¢2.00 per litre to cushion consumers against rising fuel prices.
The government’s intervention takes effect from Tuesday, August 4, 2026, and will apply to diesel for one month. There is no corresponding reduction in the regulatory margin for petrol.
The intervention is intended to limit the impact of rising fuel costs on households and businesses, while helping to contain pressure for increases in commercial transport fares and broader inflation.
The latest move also comes as international crude oil prices remain elevated and the Cedi faces renewed pressure, increasing the cost of importing petroleum products.
More OMCs expected to cut diesel prices
More Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) are expected to revise their ex-pump prices, particularly for diesel, from Tuesday as the government’s temporary intervention takes effect.
The adjustment could narrow the gap between pump prices at some stations and the NPA price floor, giving consumers some immediate relief from the sharp increases recorded at the start of August.
Diesel prices are currently nearing GH¢20 per litre at some fuel stations, while petrol prices have crossed GH¢15 per litre at some outlets.
At state-owned GOIL outlets, petrol is selling at GH¢15.99 per litre, while diesel is priced at GH¢19.26 per litre. Super XP 95 is selling at GH¢17.30 per litre.
At Shell outlets, petrol is selling at GH¢16.29 per litre, with diesel at GH¢19.49 per litre.
At TotalEnergies outlets, petrol is also selling at GH¢16.29 per litre, while diesel is priced at GH¢19.49 per litre.
For consumers, the immediate impact of the intervention is expected to lower diesel pump prices at participating OMCs.
However, the relief is temporary and applies only to diesel, meaning petrol prices will continue to reflect prevailing market conditions.
