The internet service is being offered to vessels that have a registered IMO number. Such ships can apply to get a special deal where they can get two months of free, five-terabyte-a-month mobile priority service for a trial run of the technology. The offer will remain active until March 1, 2024.

The service is being offered by resellers of the Starlink service. The user terminal for a connection to Starlink satellites costs $2000, and the five-terabyte per-month service is priced at $5000 per month. So the offer for two months of free internet is worth $10,000. It is important to note that although the user terminal is not offered for free, there is a refund for the terminal being offered should the customer choose to return the terminal after the trial period has ended.

With speeds of up to 200 Mbps, big names in the shipping industry such as NYK, MOL, Hapag Lloyd, and Maersk have already signed up for the Starlink service. The new trial offering for the internet service is expected to garner Starlink an even greater market share.
