Elon Musk, the CEO of electric carmaker Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) Inc, announced on Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) on Sunday that he will pay more than $11 billion in taxes this year.
After Time magazine named Musk “person of the year,” Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren took to Twitter earlier this week to urge that Musk should pay taxes and stop “freeloading off everyone else.”
Musk responded by claiming that he “will pay more taxes this year than any other American in history.” Musk is the wealthiest individual on the planet, with a corporation worth almost $1 trillion.
Musk has sold roughly $14 billion worth of Tesla stock in the last several weeks.
