The Iranian government declines the 45‑day ceasefire proposal.

Tensions across the Middle East are surging after Iran turned down a proposed 45-day ceasefire, demanding a permanent resolution to the conflict instead.

US President Donald Trump has escalated the pressure, setting a strict deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He cautioned that noncompliance could trigger extensive attacks on key infrastructure, including bridges and power facilities, and stated that he is “not at all” worried about accusations of potential war crimes linked to such actions.

The United Nations has issued a counter warning. Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that striking civilian infrastructure breaches international law, urging all parties to exercise restraint as hostilities intensify.

On the battlefield, the conflict shows no signs of slowing. Israel conducted a fresh round of airstrikes on Iranian targets early Tuesday, which led to retaliatory missile launches from Tehran toward Israel and neighboring Gulf countries.

The humanitarian impact continues to grow. Reports indicate over 1,900 fatalities in Iran, though recent updates have been limited. Lebanon has recorded more than 1,400 deaths and over a million people displaced. Casualties have also been reported in Israel, the West Bank, and among US military personnel operating in the region.
