Former acting ICE Director Tom Homan has expressed his honor at being chosen as the “border czar” for the incoming Trump administration and his determination to address the border crisis.
In his first interview on “Fox & Friends” since accepting the role, Homan stated, “I’ve been vocal for years about what’s needed at the border. When the president asked if I’d come back and fix it, I couldn’t say no. It’s an honor, and I’m ready to help resolve this national security crisis.”
Homan, who served as a Border Patrol agent and ICE director in the past, said, “I feel a clear calling to return. I’m frustrated with what this administration has done to the border I once knew as the most secure in my lifetime.” He emphasized his commitment to restore border security, particularly by addressing threats from drug cartels and human trafficking.
Trump announced Homan’s appointment on Truth Social, filling a role that had been managed by Vice President Kamala Harris. The decision comes in response to record numbers of illegal border crossings under the Biden administration, with nearly 3 million in fiscal year 2024.
Immigration remains a core issue in Trump’s campaign, with his proposed measures including mass deportations, border wall construction, and reinstatement of prior executive orders. Homan underscored this stance, saying it would focus on removing individuals posing public safety and security risks.
“I know what needs to be done, and this is the second time I’m coming out of retirement for this president because it matters,” Homan remarked, adding that his return has been met with enthusiastic support from both ICE agents and retired military personnel willing to volunteer.
While Homan has received death threats in light of his new role, he remains resolute. “I won’t be silenced or deterred. This is the nation’s most critical security vulnerability since 9/11, and we have to fix it.”
