Zenith Bank Names Charles Boakye Nimako as New Board Chairman

Mrs Duplan has stepped down as Board Chair after serving the maximum six-year term since her appointment in 2020. During her tenure, she provided strong leadership and guided the Bank through a period of resilience and innovation. She will, however, remain on the Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director, continuing to offer her wealth of experience to Zenith Bank Ghana.

Mr Charles Boakye Nimako, who has been a member of the Board since 2023, takes over the role. Prior to his appointment as Board Chair, he served as an Independent Non-Executive Director and chaired the Risk and Cyber Information Security Committee. He brings extensive expertise in corporate governance, financial services and strategic leadership to his new position.

Mr Nimako currently serves as Director of Africa Initiatives at Safe Water Network, a US-based non-governmental organisation focused on market-driven community water solutions. He established the organisation’s Ghana office in May 2010, following several senior leadership roles with PepsiCo’s franchise operations in Ghana and across other African markets.

His previous positions include Chief Executive Officer of Beverage Investments Ghana Limited and SBC Beverages Ghana Limited, both PepsiCo franchise holders. He also served as Director of Sales and Marketing for Ghana and as Franchise Operations Manager for Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia. Additionally, he worked as a Consultant and Project Director for AngoAlissar LDA, a PepsiCo franchise in Luanda, Angola.

Beyond his corporate leadership experience, Mr Nimako has a strong background in management consulting and professional accounting. He previously worked as a Management Consultant with McKinsey & Company in Johannesburg and London, a staff accountant with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC) in Los Angeles, and an Audit Manager at Great Western Financial Corporation in Beverly Hills, California.

In addition to his new role at Zenith Bank Ghana, Mr Nimako is the Board Chair of Unilever Ghana PLC, a position he assumed in November 2025. He also serves on the boards of Beverage Investments Limited (Pepsi-Cola) and Beverly Ranch Ghana Limited. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and holds an MBA in Management from Stanford Business School in California, USA.

Commenting on the appointment, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Ghana, Mr Henry Onwuzurigbo, described the decision as timely and strategic for the Bank’s next phase of growth. He noted that Mr Nimako’s prior service on the Board would ensure leadership continuity and added that his broad industry experience, strategic insight and strong governance background would be critical in strengthening the Bank’s market position, driving innovation, enhancing customer experience and delivering sustainable growth.

In his response, Mr Nimako expressed gratitude for the appointment, describing it as an honour. He said he looks forward to working closely with the Board and Executive Management to build on the Bank’s record of disciplined execution and growth, while advancing Zenith Bank’s vision of excellence, innovation and customer-focused banking in Ghana’s financial sector.
