Economic relations between Saudi Arabia and Nigeria are set for closer collaboration following high-level discussions between the Saudi Ambassador and business magnate Aliko Dangote in Abuja.
Held on Friday, April 24, 2026, the meeting took place at the ambassador’s residence within Abuja’s Diplomatic District and focused on strengthening cooperation in key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and industrial development.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that both sides described the discussions as part of a growing wave of economic engagement between the two countries.
Ambassador Yousef Al-Balawi noted that the dialogue demonstrated a mutual intention to expand collaboration across priority sectors, with both parties identifying new areas for investment.
During the talks, attention was also given to Dangote’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia, where earlier discussions reportedly explored potential expansion plans and cross-border business opportunities.
Consideration was likewise extended to investment prospects within Saudi Arabia for the Dangote Group, alongside opportunities in Dangote-owned enterprises that could attract Saudi capital.
Interest from Gulf investors has been rising as they increasingly turn toward Nigeria, particularly in sectors such as large-scale infrastructure, energy projects, and industrial manufacturing.
Operating across cement, fertiliser, sugar, oil refining, and petrochemicals, the Dangote Group remains one of Africa’s most influential conglomerates, with business lines that align with Saudi Arabia’s diversification and investment priorities.
The discussions also reflect a broader shift in economic relations between African and Middle Eastern economies, as Nigeria continues to seek foreign investment to accelerate industrialisation and infrastructure growth.
After the meeting, the Saudi ambassador hosted a dinner in honour of Dangote and presented him with a commemorative gift to mark the occasion.
