President Mahama to introduce e-Visa service in Ghana on May 25

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, has revealed that John Dramani Mahama will officially unveil the country’s first electronic visa (e-Visa) platform on Africa Day, Monday, May 25, 2026. He described the initiative as a significant milestone in Ghana’s efforts to digitise travel and tourism services.

In a Facebook post shared on Friday, May 22, the minister said the new system represents Ghana’s “warm digital handshake with the world,” aimed at making travel into the country quicker, easier, and more convenient for international visitors.

Mr. Ablakwa announced that President Mahama is scheduled to launch the e-Visa service on Africa Day as part of Ghana’s broader digital transformation agenda.

He further disclosed that under the new policy, Africans will not be charged visa fees, describing the move as part of Ghana’s commitment to African integration and freer movement across the continent.

According to him, the initiative reinforces Ghana’s openness to business and tourism.

The announcement follows earlier confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Cabinet had approved the e-Visa policy as part of measures to modernise the country’s travel framework, improve security screening, and promote tourism and foreign investment.

The ministry explained that the digital visa platform is intended to simplify application procedures for both business and leisure travellers while maintaining secure and efficient entry processes.

Officials say the reform also supports President Mahama’s “Ghana is open for business” vision and is expected to strengthen the country’s image as a secure, welcoming, and technology-driven destination.

The introduction of the e-Visa system forms part of wider government plans to modernise public services and improve Ghana’s competitiveness within global tourism and investment markets.
